Roundtable: Criminal Justice Innovations in Times of Uncertainty
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a dramatic impact on county criminal justice systems and budgets. In an effort to promote social distancing within jail facilities, some counties have worked with law enforcement and judicial partners to reduce their jail populations by as much as 50 percent. At a time when revenues are down and leaders are responding to calls for racial equity in criminal justice systems, counties are having to make tough policy and funding decisions. On November 5, NACo is hosting a virtual roundtable for county leaders to discuss innovations in reducing jail populations as a result of COVID-19 and the opportunity to sustain these population levels while maintaining public safety and promoting equity in their communities.
