Data-Driven Justice Monthly Call: Placing a Mental Health Clinician in the Jail
On this Data-Driven Justice webinar, the City of Long Beach, Calif. discusses the momentum around DDJ in the city and a pilot program it started earlier this year to place a mental health clinician in the jail. The six-month pilot placed a full-time mental health clinician in the jail to conduct assessments and provide post-release planning through linkages and referrals to services for individuals who are in police custody. Due to the success of the pilot, Long Beach Police Department is funding the program for an additional year. The program is a partnership with The Guidance Center, a local mental health service provider, who was selected as the city's community partner due to their expertise in treating trauma and a long history of providing comprehensive mental health services to the Long Beach community, including case management.
