The 2019 Large Urban County Caucus (LUCC) Symposium is underway in Miami-Dade County, Fla.

More than 120 county officials from 50 urban counties are attending the symposium to share knowledge and solutions involving metropolitan communities.

County officials representing urban counties will discuss topics such as homelessness, resilience and early childhood development, which impact over 130 large urban counties located within 35 different states.

LUCC Chair and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sally Heyman will kick off the symposium on Thursday alongside Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

During the three-day symposium, attendees will visit the Miami Center for Mental Health and Recovery and the Wynwood District to see how murals transformed a community. Sessions at the Intercontinental Miami will also focus on infant mortality and community engagement.

At the end of the symposium, county officials will tour the coast of Miami and see how rising waters impact the surrounding areas.
