Washington – The National Association of Counties (NACo) today responded to the unveiling of the U.S. House of Representatives infrastructure package. The proposal includes a surface transportation reauthorization and other infrastructure legislation, including water and broadband projects. NACo CEO/Executive Director Matthew Chase said:

“Counties own and maintain 45 percent of the nation’s roadways, nearly 40 percent of our bridges and are involved in the vast majority of public transportation systems. We invest significant resources in infrastructure and need a reliable federal partner to work with us on projects that help connect people and places in every corner of the country. We applaud this step toward a comprehensive infrastructure package and encourage Congress to deliver long-term legislation that preserves local decision-making, dedicates investments in locally-owned infrastructure and brings solvency to the Highway Trust Fund. We look forward to working with our partners in the House and Senate to achieve our shared environmental, economic and infrastructure goals.”
