The National Association of Counties hosted a full-day diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) county convening before NACo’s 2022 Annual Conference to discuss the importance of equity in governance and how to strategically align efforts at the county level. The convening brought together over 50 participants from over 20 counties who sent a team comprised of a DEI practitioner, county administrator and elected official. Throughout the convening, attendees discussed the unique challenges and opportunities they see in their distinct roles and explored how to advance the principles of DEI by considering community data differently. Counties receive first Secure Rural Schools payments after program is reauthorized

Local government organizations send letter in support of the BASICS Act to congressional leaders
On February 16, nearly 80 state associations of counties and municipal leagues representing local governments in all 50 states sent a letter to the leaders of the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works expressing their support for the Bridges And Safety Infrastructure for Community Success (BASICS) Act (H.R. 7437) and urging its inclusion in the next surface transportation reauthorization bill.
