The Pre-Release and Reentry Services Division of the Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation’s developed and implemented a Workplace Digital Skill Training Program for all incarcerated individuals at the Montgomery County Pre-Release Center in partnership with Montgomery County Community College and Montgomery Works, a local One-Stop Career Center. Funded by a federal grant award, the WDSTP provides basic digital literacy training for every Resident coming into the Center, and more advanced training for smaller selected groups of Residents to advance their opportunities to find and obtain jobs in the workforce that require technology skills. It also provides residents with significant guidance and support by grant-funded employment specialists and by existing services offered at the Center. In the first two quarter’s of the program’s operation, 337 Residents basic digital literacy skill training, 55 attended the Microsoft application training, and 5 participants attended Montgomery College and completed instruction to obtain a Microsoft Certified Information Technology Professional (MCITP) Enterprise Desktop Support Technician certificate. All Residents also have received comprehensive support services from the Pre-Release Center and additional services provided by the grant.
