The Records Management Division of the Recorder’s Office has taken on an increasingly active role in the education and training of all Mohave County departments to assist them in determining what records to retain according to their particular retention schedule(s) and to help the departments recognize the importance of the preservation of permanent/historical records. What began as an effort in fiscal management by our County leaders, to reduce the number of storage facilities within the County, provided an opportunity to educate and train all departments as to the importance of their department retention schedules and the care of records in their domain. The Emergency Response Team was identified as needing proper storage of the strategic national storage for any Public Health Department responses. The County Elections Department also had a requirement for proper storage and space to prepare for elections. Mohave County records were stored in a variety of locations and conditions and we were able to move a majority of records into a central location that was the County’s National Guard Armory and then the jail annex. This move was a cost savings as well as the ability to create a secure environment for storage and records.
