Walk the Talk is a series of free, informative walks in a park with health and wellness professionals at an enjoyable, easy pace. Each walk lasts about an hour. Walk the Talk helps build and maintain physical activity, improve health, and decrease chances of developing chronic disease. And those benefits are combined with the expertise of local health and wellness professionals discussing various health and wellness topics. Topics so far have included stroke awareness, reproductive health, and adhering to an exercise program. According to the American Heart Association, walking has the lowest dropout rate of any physical activity. Walking for as little as 30 minutes a day can have the following health benefits: • reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, osteoporosis, Type 2 diabetes, and breast and colon cancer • improve blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and blood lipid profile • maintain body weight and lower the risk of obesity • enhance mental well-being Walking is low impact and is safe for people with orthopedic ailments or heart conditions, and for anyone who is more than 20 percent overweight. In addition, research has shown that you could gain two hours of life for each hour of regular exercise!
