Year: 2019

Clark County and community partners established the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center as the primary resource to turn to for anyone struggling with effects from the 1 October mass shooting that occurred in Las Vegas on Oct. 1, 2017. Clark County’s Office of Public Communications managed all civic education and public information efforts related to boosting awareness of help available through the Center to survivors, responders, and family member of 58 victims who died. Our outreach efforts included generating content for the Resiliency Center’s website, www.VegasStrongRC.org, launching and overseeing its Facebook page and social media presence; creating English and Spanish outreach materials including posters, fliers and PSAs for radio, TV and social media; organizing public outreach events, and writing news releases pitching media coverage. Special emphasis was placed on encouraging survivors to apply for the Nevada Victims of Crime Program by its application deadline of Oct. 1, 2018. Our outreach efforts resulted in more than 8,000 people being served by the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center, the submission of 5,545 Victims of Crime applications by the one-year deadline, and 41,605 visits to the Center’s website in 2018, and tens of thousands of views on the Center’s Facebook page.
