About the Program

Category: Parks and Recreation (Best in Category)

Year: 2020

Montgomery County Recreation’s Youth Development (YD) division sponsors the TeenWorks Volunteer Program for Montgomery County High School students aged 14 and up. TeenWorks provides its participants the opportunity to earn student service learning hours in meaningful roles with a tangible contribution to the community. All the while, it helps these teens improve upon the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to grow as a young professional in a positive work environment. A personal goal for most TeenWorks volunteers is to work their way into a paid position with Youth Development.Because of its unique function, TeenWorks benefits not only these high school students, but it serves participants in other YD programs, the YD Team as a whole, and our partnering agencies. For the TeenWorks participants, this program provides a transformative experience that can be integral to their development as young adults. For the YD team and our partnering agencies, the program fills a need by providing a volunteer workforce and a pipeline of well-trained potential hires. And for participants in other YD programs, including young children, TeenWorks helps shape role models and provides opportunities for youth to connect with those role models.
