In order to increase government visibility, many officials have initiated government education and accessibility programs. Tax Visualizer is an online application launched by Miami-Dade County’s Department of Community Information & Outreach in collaboration with the Property Appraiser’s Office. The application is a component of a larger public education program which aims to increase understanding of Florida’s property tax system, as well as the roles of different organizations in the system. Miami-Dade County homeowners can go online, enter their folio number or address, and the application will display a breakdown of how their property taxes are distributed in a graphical and interactive manner. This easy to use visualization tool has assisted residents to better understand where their taxpayer dollars go, and thus have a more informed opinion on County budget issues.
