In 2015, Tallahassee-Leon County Geographic Information Systems (TLCGIS) conducted a comprehensive overhaul of its public-facing website. Revisions to the website produced vastly improved accessibility across multiple device platforms, broad expansion of variety in content, and data consistency. TLCGIS was established through a 1990 interlocal agreement between Leon County, the City of Tallahassee, and the Leon County Property Appraiserâs Office. Since its inception, improvements to local GIS data have been constant, but the public GIS interface was seldom updated. With the deployment of the new GIS website in 2015, public GIS mapping applications were modernized to incorporate the latest web mapping technology and focused applications were included to meet citizensâ needs. For example, TLCGIS can now instantly publish new applications on topical issues such as new economic development activities. The GIS website overhaul promotes collaboration and enhanced decision-making among governmental partners, the business community, and private individuals.
