SWAG Nation USA, Inc., an acronym for Style With American Glory, helps prepare troubled youth, ages 7 to 17, to become good societal members. It began as a gentlemen’s etiquette academy in 2011, but has since progressed into allowing young ladies to attend classes as well. The classes are broken down into eight two-hour sessions, focusing on character, personality, socialization skills, leadership skills, career readiness, and dining etiquette. LAW Awareness Campaign is the theme for Session 1. The students learn their rights as citizens, as well as city laws and ordinances. They are also taught the proper etiquette when being pulled over by police authority. Session 2 teaches students about self-esteem, conflict resolution, and anger management. Session 3 helps the students deal with social problems, such as bullying, alcohol, drugs, peer pressure, etc. During Session 4, the students learn about money management and educational tips for the future. Session 5 coaches students on personal hygiene and grooming. They also go through a health and fitness “boot camp” to learn the importance of daily exercise. During Session 6, the students discover how to tie a necktie, how to properly shake a hand, and dining etiquette. The students rehearse for graduation during Session 7. Finally, the big day is here…graduation day. Upon graduating, each student reflects on what they learned and how they grew from the program.
