Space Camp was a nine-week program series held at Southeast Regional Library each week in June and July of 2019. This program targeted school-aged children between the ages of seven and twelve, and was a success for our Summer Reading Program.I designed the program to introduce attendees to introductory space concepts and develop an understanding of how astronauts prepare for space travel. The topics discussed ranged from the order of the planets and phases of the moon, to creating a grocery list of items we would take into space and making chocolate pudding as an astronaut would! We learned about the languages most commonly spoken among astronauts and talked about how they celebrate the holidays in a space shuttle. Anywhere from ten to thirty-nine children attended the program throughout its nine weeks, many of them coming back regularly.
