The San Diego County Probation Department and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department have collaborated on a project previously named Operation Watchful Eye and now known as Tracking Known Offenders (TKO). In this collaboration the Probation Department provides information and criminal intelligence to assist the Sheriff’s Department in solving crimes, and the Sheriff’s Department assists the Probation Department in the field supervision of medium and high risk probationers, by enforcing court orders. Functioning together, these departments maximize limited resources, while ensuring those on probation are abiding by the conditions of probation and all laws. There is also an exerted effort to increase supervision techniques, reduce recidivism and identify those probationers that are continuing a criminal lifestyle. This partnership better serves the courts, both agencies and the citizens of San Diego County, with a shared goal of protecting public safety and assisting probationers through the rehabilitative process.
