The Regional Realignment Response Group (R3G) is a regional law enforcement effort funded by the County of San Diego and implemented in January of 2014. Under the leadership of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the multi-agency R3G ensures public safety through a targeted, proactive, intelligence-based approach to counteract the risks associated with realigned offenders— those offenders now supervised locally by the San Diego County Probation Department as result of the passage of California’s AB109, the Public Safety Realignment Act of 2011, instead of by State Parole as they would have been historically. Three regional R3G sub-groups encompass the entire county, with each sub-group consisting of law enforcement agencies in each of the designated regions. Each sub-group conducts monthly joint operations focused on the most risky and crime-prone realigned offenders in the community. Four dedicated R3G Crime and Intelligence analysts help the teams identify their targets and equip the law enforcement teams with a wealth of intelligence. The analysts work from the San Diego County Law Enforcement Coordination Center (SDLECC), which provides operational, analytical and intelligence-based support to ensure the highest-risk realigned offenders are identified and contacted.
