Year: 2010

In April 2009, Arlington County Department of Environmental Services Solid Waste Bureau partnered with the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department to dedicate the Quincy Park Interpretive Recycling Center with an Earth Day ceremony. Together, the two departments created the Interpretive Center, a small park located alongside a recycling drop-off site for residents and small businesses, to showcase the reuse and recycling of organic and inert materials collected in the County. Exhibits throughout the Center demonstrate how dirt, mulch, concrete, asphalt, metal, and recyclable products are reused and recycled for other uses in the County. Exhibits throughout the Center demonstrate how dirt, mulch, concrete, asphalt, metal, and recyclable products are reused and recycled for other uses in the County. Berms are created from processed dirt. Wood and leaf mulch surrounding the trees is made from brush and leaves from Arlington’s collection program. Pathways are made from crushed aggregate material and decorative walls are made from recovered pieces of sidewalk. Even the bench is made from recycled plastic. Signs accompany each item explaining its recycling process.
