Throughout United States history, there has always been a push for government transparency and accountability, specifically in regards to tax related issues. In response, Gwinnett County created a universally accessible interactive program on the internet for citizens to use in order to gain information. Gwinnett County Information Technology staff created this web application to provide customized data that shows the total amount of property taxes paid for any given tax parcel in the county and a breakdown of where the money goes, including how the County spends its portion of the total tax. The Property Tax Calculator shows both the annual amount for each breakdown category as well as a daily amount. Being that citizens now have a personalized breakdown of the path that their tax dollars take, the county government can now provide it's services with much more ease and efficiency. Feedback from the public has been outstanding with traffic towards the web application.
