About the Program

Category: Community and Economic Development (Best in Category)

Year: 2011

Mecklenburg County developed Professional Certification to provide customers with another plan review option and more control over the permitting time, while simultaneously promoting processional responsibility for code compliance. Mecklenburg Code Enforcement initiated a commercial plan review Professional Certification Program component as a regular option available to projects with teams composed of qualifying professional as the designers of record. The key features of the Professional Certification is that the Architects and engineers that work in the current system as designers and developers of their projects can take it one step further as plan examiners within the department for their projects. This gives the Architects and engineers a direct relationship all the way to the inspection phases. This process improves customer satisfaction with the department, eliminated most of the consuming plan review time process and assists the design community and construction industry in getting the project to the field to help improve the economic situation by reducing any nonproductive plan review time.
