Category: Transportation (Best in Category)

Year: 2010

The Fleet Management Division provides transportation and construction assets to twelve Administrative Departments and six elected official offices within El Paso County. The division is allocated 30 employees with 28 currently on hand. The division operates three maintenance garages and maintains approximately 1,043 pieces of vehicles and equipment. In addition, the division also operates and maintains 11 fuel sites strategically located within El Paso County. In mid year of 2006, the division started taking steps to shift toward a more proactive maintenance program. This was a collaborative effort with the customer departments and elected officials. Guidelines to perform proactive maintenance were developed by division staff which was then reviewed by all division employees requesting their inputs. The criteria established for reviewing the guidelines was to tell the division staff what should be changed, why it should be altered, and recommend a shift that will create safety, efficiency and save funds. Preventive Maintenance service checklists were developed to address the different vehicles and equipment to include the subsystems. This proactive maintenance program ensures that mechanically safe county vehicles and equipment are traveling in the public roads with the general population.
