Salt Lake County Animal Services (SLCoAS) has created a county wide program, the Pet Crew Pantry. The program provides free pet food and supplies to individuals who reside in Salt Lake County that find themselves in need. In April 2020, Salt Lake County Animal Services applied for grants to cover the cost of pet food for these families. After receiving six grants, assistance from local businesses and donations from community members, the program is a great success. Pet Crew Pantry events are held monthly at Salt Lake County Animal Services and are advertised on many platforms. Since the beginning of the pandemic, SLCoAS continues to receive calls from Salt Lake County residents informing the agency of the challenges they face caring and feeding their animals. Many calls are requests to surrender their animals. The obvious need to help people and their pets remains, which is why the program was created. Animal Services’ goal continues to be to ease the burden many pet owners are facing by providing needed pet care supplies. With this added assistance Animal Services is seeing healthier animals and fewer surrenders. The Pet Crew Pantry has a positive fiscal and emotional impact on the community and their pets.
