In 2011, ten children died as a result of abuse or neglect in El Paso County, Colorado. In response to the alarming numbers, El Paso County Commissioner Sallie Clark and District Attorney Dan May started the Not One More Child Initiative through a coalition coordinated by the El Paso County Department of Human Services. The coalition brings together more than 140 representatives from law enforcement, military installations, hospitals, school districts, community groups and non-profits to address this crisis in our community. The overall goal of the coalition is to not see one more child die as a result of abuse or neglect in El Paso County. In just one year of work, the number of children who died as a result of abuse or neglect in El Paso County reduced from ten in one year to four, which is the lowest number since 2007.
