Through the Proceeds of funds derived from the Capital project Sales tax and funds designated in the County’s Capital Improvement Fund, a $9,371,847 multi-purpose facility was constructed. The Orangeburg County Aquatic Park includes an indoor natatorium, a warm-water therapeutic pool, and a full fitness center. A full-sized gymnasium houses basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, gymnastics, and multiple pre-school activities and programs including a supervised child watch area and modern locker room facilities for adult men and women, families, and individuals with special needs. A large, multi-faceted conference room is available for community meetings, civic groups, and special events. Finally, there is an outdoor seasonal Water park with a lazy river, two family fun slides, an exhilarating bowl size, zero-depth entry, children’s play features’ and a separate tot pool with its own slide. There is sun seating with lounge chairs, shade structures, and 30- foot covered picnic pavilion for parties and special events, and a food concessions area. The aquatic Park has been a major success for the taxpayers of the County. An operating agreement was negotiated with the YMCA of Columbia to provide staffing, programming, and maintenance of the facility, which is self-supporting and requires no tax millage to operate the park.
