The Montgomery County Senior Center Transportation Program provides a combination of curb-to-curb and fixed-route transportation, Monday through Friday, to the County recreation department’s five senior centers. County residents 55 and over are eligible for this free program if they live within a defined geographic service area for the centers. The Recreation Department’s full-day senior centers are a hub for multi-agency services that provide optimal opportunities for seniors to remain active while living independently. The extensive programming offerings include recreational, social, and health and wellness activities. The Montgomery County Senior Center program expanded services into neighborhoods that had previously not been served. The ElderBus Fleet is able to reach seniors on the streets where they live, with the ability to go into neighborhoods that larger buses were not able to access. Seniors are an important part of our community and a priority of the current county administration is to ensure that Montgomery County is a lifetime community which allows older adults to live independently. The Program is a strong partnership which leverages valuable resources from Montgomery County Recreation, Health and Human Services, and the Jewish Council for Aging (JCA) to achieve the mutual goal of providing quality services to senior residents.
