Year: 2012

Sacramento County takes consumer protection mobile with free food inspection mobile phone applications for iPhones and Androids. The food inspection apps are the first-of-their-kind by local government that lets the public easily learn about a food facility’s health inspection compliance, with maps and access to the full inspection report on smartphones. These innovative applications, and the companion mobile website, show the current food inspection status for Sacramento County food facilities as color markers on an interactive map based on the smartphone user’s current location. The color of the marker reflects the most recent food inspection result: Green for “Pass”, Yellow for “Conditional Pass”, or Red for “Closed”. Along with the current inspection status, the mobile app map shows a pop-up information balloon with the most recent inspection date and links to view 1) the most recent inspection report, 2) more inspection history, and 3) nearby food facilities. The data is also available in a list format, with the closest facilities to the user’s current location appearing first.
