The Mayhoffer Farm covers 199 acres between the cities of Lafayette and Louisville in Boulder County. Boulder County, partnering with the two cities, purchased 165 acres of the farm and the associated water rights to be designated as open space in August, 2017. All mineral rights for the land were also acquired, ensuring that the land will never have oil and gas development. Development of any sort was restricted to three house lots that comprised the remaining 34 acres of the farm, where there are existing homes and several outbuildings. The Mayhoffer Farm is important land to act as a buffer between Lafayette and Louisville, for its high visibility at the northeast corner of 95th Street and Colorado Highway 42, and for its rich coal mining and agricultural history. Coal Creek runs through the property, which is bordered by pre-existing open space on the north and on the east. The Mayhoffer Farm project is one of many exemplary projects the Boulder County Parks & Open Space department has completed in its 42-year history to protect open spaces for residents and visitors alike to enjoy. With the completion of the Mayhoffer Farm project in August 2017, Boulder County now has a portfolio of more than 104,000 total acres of open space.
