Maricopa County is the fourth most populous county in the United States, and includes 24 cities and towns. The county’s 13,000 employees are spread out across 9,000 square miles and work in a variety of positions including lawyers, sheriff officers, engineers, head start teachers, and park rangers. To better provide County employees with free fitness options at their worksite; a Volunteer Group Fitness Instructor Program was implemented in late 2012. This Program offers classes to County employees in seven different locations across the Valley with 30 active instructors teaching classes like yoga, boot camp and HIIT. On a weekly basis, at least 25 volunteer classes are being held teaching on average 600 employees each month.
