The Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles (HACoLA) manually processes over 17,000 maintenance work orders annually. Given funding challenges, HACoLA must ensure that it continues to streamline processes and create electronic formats for U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administrative requirements. In September 2012, HACoLA was exploring constructive ways to make the maintenance work order process more efficient as well as improve communications between in-house staff and over 6,000 residents and their respective work order requests. The Maintenance Work Order Application was implemented in August 2014. Since the launch, HACoLA no longer generates paper work orders and 90 percent of the data entry has been automated, thus reducing staff’s workload.
