Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Vital Records is a state mandated program primarily responsible for the registration of birth and death (including fetal and stillbirth) certificates as well as issuing burial permits that occurred in Los Angeles County. Vital Records is composed of four operations: Birth Section, Death Section, District Services, and Technical Support Section with different locations throughout the County to service our communities. On July 1, 2017, the Office of Vital Records, in collaboration with Fidelity Information Services (FIS), launched the Public Health Vital Records System (PHVRS). This online and in-person e-commerce application is used by Funeral Homes and Mortuary staff to order and pay fees for certified copies of death certificates and permits for the disposition of human remains. The PHVRS program has had more than a 100% growth since its inception servicing customers of the Greater Los Angeles Area.
