To help bring more citizens into the process of updating their comprehensive plan, the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Planning Department used a multi-pronged approach that included an interactive website, a film series, and… a music video. Naturally, a song and video about population growth and planning caught the attention of more citizens than a typical meeting flier could. When people watched the music video online or saw it with the movie trailers at a local theater, they were encouraged to participate in the update of their community’s comprehensive plan through a series of meetings and on the plan’s interactive website. The Planning Department also produced a number of other videos that explained the community’s planning problems in everyday language and showed those at public meetings and online.
