El Paso County Recreation & Cultural Services Division offers programs and events at two nature centers, the Fairground, and over 7000 acres of parkland. With the enormous variety of recreational opportunities in the Pikes Peak region, it is critical that the County programs and events are innovative to attract participants. The division started the Innovative Program Initiative to significantly expand the use of County Park facilities through innovative programming that was valued by our residents and visitors. In 2015 the Innovative Programming Team worked extremely hard to successfully implement innovative programs and events. These innovations enhanced tourism opportunities and created new revenue streams to support operations. In addition to the hundreds of traditional programming the team created and coordinated the following innovative programs and events in 2015. 1. Bear Creek’s Bear Run 2. Pikes Peak Birding & Nature Festival 3. Horse Poker Run 4. Fountain Creek Firelight Evening 5. Sustainability Series 6. Active Adult Nature Club Series 7. Murder Mystery Dinner Theater 8.
