Salt Lake County Animal Services is the largest, municipal âNo Killâ shelter in Utah. âNo Killâ means an animal will not be euthanized for time or space in a shelter. Last year, we housed over 12,000 animals and our live release rate was 94.3%. We are able to achieve such amazing goals by creating innovative programs that provide our community with resources to keep their animals in their home and/or return them quickly to their home. We want to reach every audience that we serve and one very important demographic is the youth in our community. With this need and focus on children, we created a Humane Education program. Our Humane Education program educates the community about the services offered by our agency and resources available to them. This program is primarily focused on school-aged kids although we have resources available for all ages. We teach programs about animal behavior, care, control, training, and responsible pet ownership. Our Humane Educator conducts tours of the shelter, school field trips, assemblies, classroom demonstrations, and vehicle tours. Through this program we offer classes on a variety of topics to adult and child audiences from pet first aid, dog training, and disaster planning.
