There are severe consequences to Driving Under the Influence (DUI) in Arizona. Widely regarded as having the strictest DUI laws in the nation, even a misdemeanor DUI in Maricopa County can result in six months in jail, thousands of dollars in fines and years of probation. In 2020, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO) along with the Maricopa County Justice Courts helped make home detention a viable option for many of these misdemeanor DUI offenses, thus providing opportunities for offenders to remain employed and contributing members of the community while still being held accountable for their actions.
