The Food Assistance Business Process Improvement plan has taken both the intake and ongoing food assistance divisions in El Paso County, Colorado from a system based on caseload to a task based system where all workers share the responsibility for the same cases. El Paso County switched to this new business process in the midst of this economic downturn when caseloads were increasing and were able to improve the timeliness rate of new applications and re-certifications. The Food Assistance Business Process Improvement Plan in El Paso County has also decreased the amount of time a client has to spend at the Department of Human Services as well as improved teamwork and accountability. Now most of the clients coming into apply for Food Assistance in El Paso County will leave the office that same day with their benefits.
