First 5 San Diego Offsite Oral Health Services (OOHS) provides preventative and restorative oral health services to an underserved child population, ages birth to 5, utilizing location-based portable services technology. By providing oral health services in a community setting, the program brings services to children who might not otherwise receive care. Services are provided in a preschool setting (as part of First 5 San Diegoâs Quality Preschool Initiative). Children are provided with care coordination, dental screenings, exams and treatment, and oral health education is provided to preschool staff, students and their parents. The program began on January 1, 2016 as a component of First 5 San Diegoâs Oral Health Initiative (OHI), a program that has been successful in providing comprehensive oral health services to children ages birth to 5 and pregnant women since 2005. OOHS seeks to improve the health of children and their families through oral health education so they are equipped to make healthy food and beverage choices that support good health.
