About the Program

Category: County Administration and Management (Best in Category)

Year: 2020

The Flood Control District of Maricopa County operates and maintains 22 flood control dams and 150 miles of channels and levees all over Maricopa County. Formal inspections are performed on an annual basis for 90 flood control structures. One output from these inspections is the creation of work orders to address specific maintenance and repair issues. The Flood Control District’s Operations & Maintenance procedures and eMaintenance software were updated to more easily track the types of work orders, their resolution and cost. The eMaintenance software replaced the Work Order Accounting System (WOAS) that was developed in-house over 20 years ago. The software was difficult to use and it no longer supported the business need. After developing a requirements document, staff evaluated several off the shelf software packages. The determination was made that the software would require extensive modifications to fit the Flood Control District’s requirements. It was determined that the best solution was to develop the software using the Public Works IT staff to develop the software in-house.
