Riverside County has developed a Pharmacy Network, which is now the exclusive source of all medications provided to County employees with workers’ compensation claims. It has been in effect for 4 years. It is a card program that stops office dispensed prescriptions and moves all prescriptions to trusted pharmacies where proper authorization is needed before a medication is dispensed. Those who have a card are guaranteed an immediate fill of the first prescription. Most recently, the County of Riverside and the Pharmacy Network has developed use of a formulary program – which the State of California is just now considering. Prescriptions are approved based upon the diagnosis, thus creating a more efficient manner, which reduces delays in getting prescriptions to our injured employees on an on-going basis.
