About the Program

Category: Criminal Justice and Public Safety (Best in Category)

Year: 2020

Purchased in 2015 by Pennington County, there are four primary partners within the Care Campus including Pennington County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), Pennington County Health and Human Services (PCHHS), Behavior Management Systems (BMS), Rapid City Police Department (RCPD). Other partners include City of Rapid City, Monument Health, South Dakota Department of Corrections and Lutheran Social Services. Programs within this “single point of entry facility” or “triage center” include Crisis Care Center, Detox, Safe Solutions, Pennington County Health and Human Services, Rapid City Police Department Quality of Life Unit, Outpatient Treatment, and 64 residential treatment beds. The Care Campus partners and programs work towards the same goals of providing the appropriate services at the time of need for our community members. Individuals access the Care Campus programs using a centralized intake area where they meet with an Intake Coordinator to assess their needs. The Care Campus is designed as a system diversion tool for law enforcement agencies who can refer individuals to services within one facility. This reduces transports to higher levels of care such as the emergency room or the Pennington County Jail. It takes approximately 1 to 3 minutes for a law enforcement officer to complete the admission process with an Intake Coordinator at the Care Campus. It allows the officer to quickly return to patrol.
