Coconino County Superior Court is piloting a statewide program, called AZCourtHelp, to enhance on-site and virtual resources for people representing themselves in court. The Arizona Supreme Court invited Coconino County Superior Court to pilot this legal self-help program on August 3, 2015. The program was created as a solution to the access to justice challenges faced by those who cannot afford legal help and lack the resources to represent themselves in court. There are two major components aimed at solving the access to justice challenges: the Legal Talks—workshops on common legal issues for people representing themselves in court—and a statewide website, azcourthelp.org. The Legal Talks began August 3, 2016 and have provided information on different issues such as family law, Arizona DUIs, guardianship of minors and adults, probate and estate planning, consumer law, employee law, and landlord and tenant law. The Legal Talks occur weekly and are free to the public at the Coconino County Law Library. The Legal Talks are also live broadcasted, inviting anyone, anywhere to participate remotely. Participants have the option to come in for the live Talk at the Coconino County Law Library, at one of our receiving sites in Yavapai and Mohave County, or call in by registering at azcourthelp.org. This allows virtually anyone in the world to participate in the Legal Talks, such as a soldier in Afghanistan filing for an Arizona divorce. The azcourthelp.org website launched January 12, 2017. It provides information such as each county’s self-help forms, a legal glossary, information about each court in Arizona, live chat with a law librarian, and the Legal Talk schedule. This user friendly website will be a great resource for anyone needing legal assistance.
