About the Program

Category: Criminal Justice and Public Safety (Best in Category)

Year: 2010

Four years ago, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO) began sponsoring an Asset Forfeiture Conference. Law enforcement agencies from across the state are invited to attend this free annual event and learn important details about the forfeiture experience through the overview of important forfeiture cases and how seizures and related procedures can impact case outcome. In addition, ethical considerations are presented and discussed along with effective seizure warrants and racketeering expenditures and how to obtain the maximum benefit from racketeering funds. Deputy County Attorneys from the MCAO specializing in asset forfeiture present case and legislative information to attendees and provide important information on how to capture and successfully prosecute those involved with civil asset forfeiture cases. The agenda for the class begins with statistics and highlights of the average forfeiture experience and is presented by members of MCAO or occasionally a guest speaker. Nearly 150 members of Maricopa County law enforcement attend this event annually. A better educated law enforcement community results in better returns for agencies and MCAO. This annual training program helps to reduce crime.
