The Montgomery County Adult Drug Court Program is a voluntary program that offers chronic substance-abusing offenders who are on probation but unable to make improvements in their lives, an opportunity to make significant changes in their lives or face long-term incarceration. These offenders require a more intensive focus on case management and treatment, daily monitoring, and weekly contact with the judiciary. The program consists of three phases, which lasts a minimum of six months each. Over the course of a clientâs participation in the program he or she is involved in individual, group, family, and/or marital therapy. Daily contact with the Case Manager, frequent random drug testing and breathalyzers, psychiatric care, primary health care, assistance with transportation, and a myriad of other interventions are included with the program. The success of the program is grounded in the utilization of evidence-based treatment approaches, technology, and the tremendous collaboration of all the agencies involved in the program which includes Circuit Court, State Attorneyâs Office, Office of the Public Defender, Department of Health & Human Services, County Sheriffâs Department, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and the Oxford House. Since its inception in the fall of 2004, the participants of the Adult Drug Court Program have demonstrated very high rates of success, and graduates of the program have continued to do well in the community.
