About the Program

Category: Criminal Justice and Public Safety (Best in Category)

Year: 2020

Over the past few years, St. Lucie County has continued to expand its reach in developing its community. We cultivated a partnership with local high schools to provide alternative pathways for students to explore and gain a better understanding of particular career fields. Our ongoing commitment to building collaborative school to industry relationships increases the career outcomes for the community youth for a sustainable future. The St. Lucie County Public Safety Department collaborated with the St. Lucie Public Schools to create the opportunity for Fort Pierce Westwood Academy (FPWA) students to be exposed to real-world work experiences and career options for those specifically interested in the Criminal Justice field while gaining their 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator Program Certification in school. By participating in this partnership, high school students have a more promising opportunity to gain full-time employment with St. Lucie County and earn competitive wages upon graduation. This program will be expanded into a more comprehensive partnership program for a myriad of career disciplines within St. Lucie County.
