About Shontrice

Shontrice Barnes serves as program manager for economic development. In this role, she develops resources, technical assistance, and learning opportunities that help county officials advance equitable economic opportunity, support place-based investment, and promote upward mobility for residents. She also helps measure and communicate the impact of county-led strategies that strengthen local economies and expand pathways out of poverty.

Prior to joining NACo, Shontrice worked on the Racial Economic Justice team at Prosperity Now, where she supported nonprofit leaders through capacity-building programs and technical assistance focused on advancing economic equity, asset building, and systems change.

Shontrice earned a master's degree in Public Policy with a concentration in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from The George Washington University and a bachelor's degree in Political Science and African American Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University.
