About

Commissioner Barb Weckman Brekke was elected to the Scott County, Minn. Board of Commissioners in November 2016 and has twice served as board chair. In addition to her public service, she is a founding attorney of Brekke, Clyborne & Ribich, L.L.C., where she provides legal services to individuals and businesses in Scott and Carver counties.

Commissioner Weckman Brekke remains actively engaged in her community. She volunteers as a meal server at Simpson House in Minneapolis and with Treehouse in Shakopee. She also serves on the steering committee and industry council for the Shakopee High School Academies. Her previous community leadership includes service on the boards of Holy Family Catholic High School and St. Francis Regional Medical Center, chairing the Scott County Extension Committee, serving on the Scott County Human Services Resource Council and participating on her church’s finance council.

A lifelong resident of Shakopee, Commissioner Weckman Brekke graduated from Shakopee Senior High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree with distinction in Agricultural Industries and Marketing from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities before going on to earn a Master’s degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota. Early in her career, she worked with the University of Minnesota Extension Service as a Youth Development Extension Educator.

While raising her four children, she worked part-time with Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom and other nonprofit organizations. She later taught economics and worked on curriculum assessment initiatives at Dunwoody Institute for four years before pursuing a legal career.

Commissioner Weckman Brekke earned her Juris Doctor from the University of St. Thomas School of Law in 2005.
