About Safa Hira
Born and raised in Howard County, Md., Safa Hira currently serves as Social Media Manager and Community Liaison for the Office of Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. In this role, Hira manages the County Executive’s social media channels, the weekly “Ball Bulletin” e-newsletter, the creation and development of infographics , and assists in content management and coordination across the county’s social media platforms.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Hira created a weekly “Status Update Sunday” posting that provided regular updates to the residents and stakeholders of Howard County that has become must read and widely shared throughout the community. Furthermore, Hira contributes content and creative marketing ideas to the county’s “StayCOVIDSafe” public awareness campaign.
Previously, she held positions assisting the Baltimore City Council and Maryland General Assembly. In 2018, Hira was elected to the Howard County Democratic Central Committee, becoming the youngest person ever elected in Howard County. Hira holds a bachelor’s degree in Government and Public Policy from the University of Baltimore. She is currently enrolled in a graduate program at Johns Hopkins University, pursuing a Master of Arts in Government with a specialization in Political Communication.
