About Michelle Sager
Michelle Sager is a Director in the Government Accountability Office's (GAO) Strategic Issues team. She oversees a range of crosscutting governance issues spanning multiple federal agencies as well as state and local governments. Her work includes evidence-based policy, DATA Act implementation, state and local fiscal issues, grants management and intergovernmental collaboration. Ms. Sager joined GAO in 1998, where her work has included budget, regulatory, international trade and postsecondary education issues as well as experience consulting with teams on qualitative and quantitative research methods. She left GAO in 2016 to serve as Director of the Economic Opportunity Division in the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices andereturned to GAO in 2018. Her prior experience also includes positions as an adjunct faculty member and legislative staff positions in the Missouri House of Representatives as well as the U.S. House of Representatives.
