About Hon. Khadijah Abdur-Rahman

The honorable Khadijah Abdur-Rahman continues to make history as a Fulton County commissioner, for Southwest Atlanta and Southern Fulton County. The first Muslim woman ever elected in the state of Georgia; she’s made a big difference in just her first year in office, representing District 6, affectionately known as THE MIGHTY6.

“Commissioner Khadijah” as she is commonly called, Introduced a $200 million coronavirus pandemic Rescue Implementation Plan to help people and families impacted by the pandemic, including an employee pandemic payroll bonus. Her legislation also called for allocating millions of dollars for the arts and culture sector of Fulton County to help revive metro Atlanta’s thriving performing-arts industry. On civil rights, Khadijah passed a resolution against voter suppression and was a driving force behind the new Pre-Arrest Diversion Center to be jointly operated by the county and the City of Atlanta. Because of these efforts and more, Khadijah was honored by the Jeannette Rankin Foundation with its Shining STAR Alumna award.

A fourth-generation family member of the historic Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta, Khadijah (formerly Beverly Jackson) is the mother of two adult daughters: Maleka and Madinah. Her son, Mustafaa Al-uqdah recently was honorably discharged after his service in the U.S. Navy.

The commissioner earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Degree at the Ambassador Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University and is in pursuit of her law degree.
