About Hon. Deni Taveras
Council Member Deni Taveras was reelected in 2018 to her second four-year term serving the residents of District 2 on the Prince George’s County Council. She was elected Council Vice Chair for Legislative Year 2021 by her colleagues, making history as the first Latina elected to her seat and to serve in Council leadership. Council Member Taveras is a strong and passionate advocate for education equity and social justice issues, seeking to improve the lives of the working families and diverse communities she represents. She chairs the Metropolitan Washington Council of Government's Climate, Energy and Environment Policy Committee, and is a member of the Local Workforce Development Board. Council Member Taveras holds a dual master’s degree in public affairs and urban regional planning from the Princeton University School of International and Public Affairs; a master’s degree from the University of Utah; and a bachelor’s degree from Barnard College, the latter two both in chemistry.
