About Hon. David Painter

Commissioner David Painter has over 40 years of construction and engineering experience working for numerous federal and private agencies. He has held many positions, including Resident Construction Manager, Regional Manager, and General Manager, and last worked as the Project Oversight Manager of the East Tennessee Technology Park Environmental Remediation Project in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

After stepping away from his career, Mr. Painter was called to local service in his home of Clermont County Ohio. His first service job was on the Ohio Township Board of Zoning Appeals, then eight years on the New Richmond Village Exempted School District Board of Education, two of those as President of the Board.  In 2017, he was elected Commissioner in Clermont County, and is currently serving his second term.

Commissioner Painter has put his experience to good use, currently serving on the NACo Board of Directors; Chairman of the NACo Environment, Energy, and Land Use-Steering (EELU) Committee where he previously served as the Vice Chair before being named to the Chairmanship in 2022; Environmental Protection Agency Local Government Advisory Council.  He is currently the 2nd Vice President of the County Commissioner’s Association of Ohio (CCAO) and also serves on their Taxation & Finance, and General Government Committees. He is the Past President of the Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI) and also serves as a member of the Area 12 Work Force Investment Board of Directors (WIBBCW), the Western Ohio Regional Advisory Board, and has been appointed by the Governor to the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission.   

Commissioner Painter and his wife, Karla, are lifelong residents of Clermont County, Ohio. They have been married for over 43 years and have three children and six grandchildren. 

Mr. Painter received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio.  David believes that planning is the key to progress while still protecting the environment.
