About Chris Pomeroy

Chris is the Airport Manager at the Friedman Memorial Airport (SUN) in Hailey, Idaho, and gateway to beautiful Sun Valley.

Chris has over 23 years of experience as an airport professional. Prior to becoming the Airport Manager at SUN in mid-2016, Chris held positions as an Airport Operations Intern and Specialist (APA Denver), Aviation Planner/Senior Aviation Planner with the Colorado and Washington State Aeronautics agencies, and as a senior airport planning consultant in Idaho and Colorado. Chris has worked his entire aviation career in the FAA Northwest Mountain Region.

Over the years in his various professional capacities, for better or worse, Chris has become known as a SME in compatible land use planning around airports. He has helped communities develop land use ordinances, land use maps, and comprehensive plan language dealing with airport land use compatibility. A few years ago, he was part of a group of proactive stakeholders here in Idaho that were successful in getting statewide airport land use legislation passed in the legislature.  

Chris currently serves on the AAAE United States Contract Tower Association (USCTA) Policy Board and leads the Idaho Contract Tower Coalition (ICTC). He previously served as Chairman of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) – Idaho – Aviation Committee.

Chris holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management from Metropolitan State University of Denver and is a proud alum of the Centennial Airport (APA) Internship Program. In his spare time, Chris enjoys fly-fishing and other outdoor recreational activities with his wife Mandy.
